Early Literacy Reading Foundational Skills for 4K - Grade 2 Students

A professional learning opportunity about the role of explicit and systematic phonics instruction in learning to read. The content is based on a Wisconsin-created self-evaluation tool, titled the Foundational Reading Skills Tool (FRST), and the foundational reading standards for 4K-2 students. Key ideas presented throughout the series include the use of a systems-wide tool for review and planning of a reading program, the reading process, phonological and phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle and phonics progression, shared reading and interactive writing. Participants will learn how all of these reading components apply to instructional practices in their classrooms.
