High Quality Materials Matter: Selection, Review and Implementation Process

Mounting evidence suggests that providing teachers with access to high-quality instructional materials and curriculum-based professional learning results in improved student outcomes, making this an equity research-based continuous improvement strategy that can address learning loss. CESA 12 aims to improve support for all teachers by ensuring that districts have the information they need to select high-quality instructional materials, and to provide professional learning for all staff that supports effective review and implementation of those materials, used both in person and remote settings.

Option 1: CESA 12 staff will guide your school through the materials selection process in English Language Arts, Math, or Science. In addition, CESA 12 staff will provide school staff with professional learning on the implementation process for the materials selected. This service requires a minimum 5 days of a customized review process held in your school by a trained Instructional Materials and Professional Learning Consultant.

Option 2: CESA 12 will serve as an External Coach: CESA 12 will provide an external coach who will share resources for independent school implementation of an existing curriculum. This service requires a minimum of 2 days to compile a customized set of resources and implementation coaching for the school team.

Option 3: CESA 12 will lead a process to identify gaps in instructional materials and standards alignment as well as support to determine how to address gaps with supplemental materials. This service requires a minimum of 3 days of a customized review process held in your school.

Option 4: Focus on professional learning tied to materials that have already been determined to be high quality. CESA 12 staff will lead the school in unpacking unit materials to ensure teacher understanding of the instructional framework, including instructional practices and formative assessments. This service requires a minimum of 5 days of customized professional learning held in your school To support implementation throughout and after these services; consider leadership and implementation coaching as well as instructional coaching.
